Gods Unchained is a free-to-play competitive trading card game that was first announced in July 2018 and released in March 2021. It is akin to games like: Legends of Runeterra, Hearthstone, and another NFT game, Splinterlands. It has similar mechanics, combinations, and deck building to the mentioned games. You can trade your cards for a better deck or sell them to earn more money. The cards are valued by their rarity and the card quality. Plain cards are non-NFT, which means you cannot sell them, but the Meteorites, Shadow, Gold, and Diamond cards, are NFTs that you can sell, and the tiers can also be seen as a higher quality version of the card in the game.
$GODS tokens introduce its play-to-earn capabilities, tokens you earn from playing the game consistently per week. The token is used to craft new NFTs, make in-game purchases, and champion user input via governance voting. It will also be distributed as a reward through quests, matches, and active staking for players who actively stake tokens. $GODS tokens are ERC-20 tokens designed to be the core in-game currency for Gods Unchained. Like existing currencies, $GODs tokens will be rewarded to users through play. However, unlike existing currencies, they will be scarce and tradable.
True digital ownership is an essential foundation, but to truly change the way games are viewed, it needs to be paired with a sustainable Play to Earn system. $GodsUnchained tokens are the key to unlocking this, providing the basis for an economy that will empower players to earn through play. Gods Unchained is also partnered with Immutable X, making the game have little to no gas fees on trading - a cheaper and easier way to trade.
The game revolves around synergy, strategy, and wits to utilize the cards to their fullest. To start the game, they give you several free decks for you to play with, which all have different play styles from one another. I appreciate this a lot because it doesn’t put you in one type of strategy and lets you build your deck or have the freedom with the abundance of cards they provide at the start. You can also get free packs from leveling up, which helps you strengthen your decks and gives you more options on how to play the game.
When I first booted up its game client, I was impressed with how clean and eye-catching it was. The tutorial explains the core fundamentals of the game, like card types, strength, damage, mana cost, and turns. It was pretty intuitive as a tutorial which helped me adapt immediately. I won my first PVP match, and it finished way earlier than other card games; it was fast-paced and simplistic, which helped speed up the game and make it more exciting. Its core mechanics are very similar or downright the same as other strategy card games, which is a bit of a concern. Still, I played the game for a few more hours, playing different decks, and trying out strategies, and I have to say that it was pretty enjoyable.
Overall, I think the game has its potential as a solid play-to-earn card game. The game itself is not an original concept and is too similar sometimes to the core mechanics of other games. Still, its P2E capabilities will surely interest people in playing it. The game is certainly something to look out for because of its potential in the strategy card game space and even in the blockchain; it's cheap, and its partnership with Immutable X makes it so that you can make a bank without breaking the bank on gas fees.
