From cute TikToks to funny memes, cats have long been an internet staple. If you're a cat lover that doesn't get enough of these furry felines but don’t want to be a full-blown crazy cat person then you might choose to take a more subtle approach in filling your life with cats. Indulging in a fantasy digitally with cats is a good way. So if you're in for a "pawsome" battle royale game where cute cats control dangerous robots then I introduce to you, Nyan Heroes. Let's see if this game can let you live your feline fantasy.

 DEVELOPMENT HISTORY

Nyan Heroes is a P2E battle royale shooter featuring cat pilots that is built on the Solana Blockchain. The co-founder of the project is Wendy Jie Huang or popularly known as Wengie or WRAYA. She is a Chinese YouTuber, vlogger, pop singer, and voice actress. The other co-founder and WRAYA’s business partner is Max Fu, he is also a gaming influencer and for the past year has developed a Roblox game called Animal Island with Melon Development Inc.

Nyan Heroes’ team is made up of 40 talented individuals that have extensive AAA game studio experience from Ubisoft, EA, Riot, and others. In addition to that, Nyan Heroes has closed a 2.5 million seed investment round in 2021 and is backed by large firms such as Three Arrow Capital and Solana Ventures. As of now, the Alpha game release is planned for Q4 this year. 

GAMEPLAY SUMMARY

Nyan Heroes is a free-to-play, play-to-earn third person shooter game where cats control Guardian Robots in PvP and PvE battles. Spanning across a wide range of activities that will cater to each player. The game modes include:

• Battle Royale (PvP)- Players will have the option to queue up as individuals or as a team of three. At the start of the game, the player will jump to a location of their choosing on the map. The goal is to be the last to survive and eliminate your opponents.
• Open World MMO (PvE)- This is where players can take on main quests and side quests to level up their characters and test new skills.
• Guild Mode- Players can build their own guild or join others in order to play co-op missions to earn loot.
• Virtual World- This is where you can hang out with other people. Here, players can become shop owners and interact with others.

In addition, players can breed Nyans and each Nyan can summon a Guardian – a powerful robot that has 9 classes: warrior, defender, brawler, assassin, sniper, medic, scout, mechanic, and soldier. 

EARNING POTENTIAL

In Nyan Heroes, players will be able to collect Nyans (Cats) and their Guardian Robots as NFTs. These can be used to play the game and earn various rewards/tokens. Completing tasks, winning battles, and progressing on adventure mode are the ways to earn $CTNP (Catnip), the utility token of the game. This token can be used to level up characters, weapons, craft items and modify land plots. The player can also sell or trade their NFTs for profit. Breeding Nyans and cloning Guardian Robots can also be utilized to earn.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

There are a lot of AAA P2E shooter games that are being developed but I like how Nyan Heroes separate themselves apart from others by having the appeal of cats pilot deadly mechs in this shooter. If you still think that Nyan Heroes is just another P2E game, then get this. Each Genesis Nyan NFT that has been bought, helped save a cat in real life. Not so bad at all if you could play games for a good cause, right? Aside from that, I also love how this game has a mix of lo-fi and cyberpunk art styles. I am honestly looking forward to how this project will turn out.

The team has thrown in some game sneak peeks here and there with game trailers to show that game development is happening but according to some of their followers, progress is quite slow. Nevertheless, their socials have 56.8k followers and 86.5k Discord members. This shows that there is some hype for the project. I just hope that the game developers didn’t promise their mechanics far too early only to realize later on that they won’t be able to deliver. I hope Nyan Cats will not be a victim of their own hype. Sometimes hyping games up too much leads to bigger downfalls as expectations are not met and the end-product gets review bombed for not living up to those expectations.

Nyan Heroes is still in its infancy and there is still a possibility for the gameplay to change in the future but based on what’s on the whitepaper and after watching this project’s game trailer, I can say that Nyan Heroes may be worthy to dig your paws into, and you don’t need nine lives to experience all its adventure!
