Mirandus: A Play-to-Earn MMORPG as Vast as Skyrim?

For the 150th time, you start a new game in Skyrim, and you think to yourself, “Surely there must be other games like Skyrim that I can play?” Elder Scrolls, RuneScape, and Fallout appear to be enjoying a lifetime in the sun as visually attractive, immersive, and escapism-focused games. These open worlds that developers have constructed serve as much-needed gateways to alternative realms. There aren’t many games exactly like Skyrim but we can check out if Mirandus can be similar or as good in its own right.

DEVELOPMENT HISTORY

Mirandus is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) being developed by Gala Games on Ethereum Blockchain and Binance Smart Chain. Gala Games was created in 2019 as a blockchain gaming firm that prioritizes entertainment. More than one million customers access Gala Games' crypto applications each month. The entire Gala Games crew has extraordinary experience and knowledge in the gaming industry. Town Star, Fuzzles, and The Walking Dead: Empires are P2E games also developed by this team. As of now, this project is shooting to be playable by the end of next year and they assure that there will be playtests along the way. The next playtest is planned to be in either December or January.

GAMEPLAY OVERVIEW

Mirandus is set to be an open-world game where you enter the wilderness to earn your fortune. You can do quests, defeat monsters, join one of the monarchs to serve as a knight, or even set up a business and become a merchant. Materium is the most valuable substance in Mirandus; it is a source of magical power.

Materium can exist in several states, such as an infused ore in solid state, a brewable potion in a  liquid condition, and as a gas that flows through the realm's sky. It enables you to cast spells, produce precious goods, restore vitality, and resurrect a fallen hero. It can also boost a character's strength, speed, and endurance while also healing them.

Purchasable items include Exemplars, deeds, buildings, ships, and docks. Exemplars are distinguished avatars with unique skills. These skills allow them to outperform normal characters in specific situations. Exemplars consist in a variety of species: including elves, halflings, orcs, dwarves, and humans. In addition to elite NFT avatars, you can also own lands known as deeds. Deeds allow you to determine which structures exist on a piece of land. Each landowner receives a portion of the earnings from the sale of goods and services produced on the land. A deed may include buildings such as archeries, armories, bakeries, barns, breweries, camps, and butcheries.

EARNING POTENTIAL

The burning question whenever there is an NFT game, is how can you earn money from it? Well these are the ways to earn:

  • Exploring the wilderness- If you are ready to claim a deed remote from the city's protection, the rewards can be substantial and you may be able to locate and get Materium.
  • Buy and sell items- GALA is the token used to buy and sell NFTs on the Gala market and within Mirandus. In-game NFTs and tokens can be exchanged for GALA. In addition, you can speculate on the NFT assets of the game by purchasing them and reselling them for a profit. Materium can be taken out of the game and sold on secondary marketplaces as ERC-20 tokens.
  • Set up bases- It is possible to establish homesteads, farms, and cities in the wilderness. These locations may generate resources or serve as gathering points for players, encouraging them to journey beyond the secure walls of a city to find Materium.
  • Gala Node License- A Gala Node License is available for purchase for 156,500 GALA. For helping to maintain the network, the license grants tokens, and the potential to gain other benefits, such as limited edition NFTs.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

The game concept of Mirandus is simply brilliant. The massive open world and freedom of choice that Mirandus gives the player helps to create an experience that feels as large as Skyrim. So far, I like how Mirandus appears to have open-ended gameplay coupled with an excellent gameplay loop – a fact that Skyrim fans will absolutely adore. While Skyrim offers a surreal, real-world experience; Mirandus has this sleek block style aesthetic going on. The nature of their game’s graphics does not detract from the overall experience; rather it enhances the gaming atmosphere.

Overall, I love the idea and direction of Mirandus. I am just mostly concerned about whether the team can actually deliver it well. The video game industry is fueled by hype. However, not every game lives up to said hype, and even the most anticipated titles can fall short come release. False promises or an exaggeration of what to expect can fail to meet the demands of players. But if Gala Games can deliver  on what they advertised, then Mirandus will be an easy recommendation for any player looking to play a game similar to Skyrim.
