The opportunity to make a second impression is valued by all, and video games are no exception. The best remakes really make the classics more accessible and approachable than ever for a whole new audience. In this article, we’ll check out if “GensoKishi Online” , a metaverse incarnation of Elemental Knights can live up or even surpass the original.
The Chinese GameFi project GensoKishi Online grew and developed from the fan-favorite and award-winning Nintendo Switch/PS4 game: Elemental Knights. Which is a Japanese 3D MMORPG title with over 8 million players worldwide. To produce one of the most anticipated games of 2022, it established partnerships with various projects and professionals in the gaming world. These include a partnership with Mr. Amano, the legendary Final Fantasy character designer who will design multiple characters for Gensokishi Online.
In GensoKishi Online you will be able to create your own characters, skin, map, and weaponry in a virtual world where all objects are represented by NFTs. The ability to track ownership of one-of-a-kind in-game items via NFTs resulted in the creation of a vast digital economy that is more complex than the economy in the original Elemental Knights game.
As a result, any in-game creations made or won by you are yours and can be sold or traded with other players, creating a gaming experience built on commerce.
By acquiring land, you can construct a variety of structures for people to engage in and creatures to fight. In exchange, as a landowner, you can charge players to enter your virtual worlds. Enabling you to generate revenue from your digital property. To make it more fun, there are also quests that you can accomplish individually or in groups to win rewards.
Aside from exploring, you can also start combat with other players in real time. The combat part of the game utilizes an automatic turn-based strategy system. To engage in combat, you will have to press buttons and employ button combinations for various spells.
GensoKishi Online will adopt a dual token mechanism to fuel the game which is earned through participation.
GensoKishi Online is a Chinese version of a project that developed and evolved from a 13-year-old Japanese game. Just like its predecessor, it features a full MMORPG world in an iconic anime art style. However, what I immediately noticed from the game trailer is that the graphics are a bit dated and the characters are somewhat rigid and stiff. It feels like it somehow had this forced, stereotypical anime look that lacks real depth and style. Moreover, the backgrounds are kind of simple and boring to look at. I think it’s quite expected with a game that is inspired from a 13-year-old classic but I believe the overall look hasn’t aged well. Still, I give the developers credit for this since balancing reintroduction and nostalgia is a difficult task.
Elemental Knights, the Japanese version that inspired this game is known for having poor translations since it was not originally developed with English as its primary language. Now, I hope GensoKishi Online as the Chinese P2E counterpart of this game avoids suffering the same fate. I hope that they will learn from their predecessor and not just have their translation seem to be ripped straight out of Google Translate.
Nevertheless, based on the short trailer available online, the soundtrack was quite decent. It’s not to say that it is anything outstanding but it’s also not the worst I’ve heard. So this game might be far from perfect but it sure has its charm too. Since for me, there is something extra special about a video game remake. Being able to revisit a beloved title of yesteryear with somewhat revamped mechanics is always exciting, especially because it often introduces a classic to a brand-new audience.
