DEVELOPMENT

Since its release in 2001, the social MMO Habbo (formerly known as Habbo Hotel) has been one of the most popular networking sites among teenagers. There are about 300 million avatars in the game's nine online communities, which are spread out over more than 150 different nations. The creator of the widely popular Habbo Hotel- Finland-based Sulake, launched a new, fully integrated web3 Habbo server where the hotel for socializing will be fueled by non-fungible tokens. The company is planning to focus on their newly added play-to-earn features and tokenomics in the game. Now, you will be able to buy, own, or resell. You will be able to own your own room in the world and create your own monetized play-to-earn game. Habbo X will be a distinct space where the Habbo and NFT communities can mingle.

GAMEPLAY SUMMARY

The primary focus of gameplay is the interaction between players, typically through public and private conversations. In this game, you can walk your avatars between different rooms of the hotel and meet new individuals in each room. Some of the rooms feature minigames, and others have themes centered on social interactions. There are also quests in Habbo that allow you to unlock game features, such as virtual pets or the ability to create your own room. Additionally, there are premium-only features that boast tons of clothing, furniture, and character effects that allow players to have complete cosmetic control over their house and avatar.

NFT COLLECTION

The Habbo NFT collection comprises 11,600 distinct pixelated avatars that were each automatically created by Habbo's system and then hand vetted by the company's art team. The avatars are non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and they can be found on the Ethereum blockchain. Habbo Avatars NFT Collection are unlike any other collectible series since each pixelated token is illustrated in a completely unique way by a computer program. All 11,600 token avatars were generated algorithmically, each one a unique mix of features from a pool of as many as 284. Therefore, each token is unique and of its kind which makes them much more valuable.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

With so much of our lives lived through the screen, it’s safe to say that our virtual lives are as essential as the ones we live in reality. It’s great that Habbo seems to have a clear focus on user experience. The mechanics in the game is like playing a second reality wherein you get to be a tiny-Lego like person in a cartoon chatroom. This game is straightforward and lets you unleash your inner interior designer characteristics. Make your space feel like home and dress up in cool clothes with the game’s eye-catching hues.

The first Habbo game was released last 2001 and the developers of the current version of Habbo with the NFT integration invites those that are feeling nostalgic about Habbo Hotel. There are certainly some that are excited for this new venture, but feedback wasn’t always positive, saying that the current version has ruined their childhood Habbo memories and that the developers are only jumping on to the NFT bandwagon. Many saw this as a way to make more money for Sulake without improving the core user experience of Habbo.

It's clear that Sulake has a lot of work to do before Habbo X can reach its full potential. Nevertheless, even though Habbo's popularity has decreased, the fact that it is still around after two decades is astounding. Whether or not it survives into the future depends on how hard the creators work to preserve the game's nostalgic charm while appealing to a new generation of players.
