CryptoBlades is a medieval-themed P2E NFT game built on Binance Smart Chain. Developed by Riveted Games, It was released in May 2021, around the time when the crypto market was at its high. The game is NFT-centric, where you use an NFT character with an NFT weapon to fight non-playable characters to earn a token called SKILL. It is the game’s main currency and is used for minting new NFTs and buying characters in its native marketplace.
There is not much to really say about the gameplay; it’s really the easiest game I’ve ever had to play. You choose a character and a weapon in hand to fight with and choose who you’re going to fight. The opponents have a set chance of getting defeated, some having less chance than the others.
One important thing to keep in mind is that almost everything costs you gas fees. These apply to fighting, minting, and even claiming your skill and XP, so it’s a costly investment if you want to play it.
There are also other modes that have been released since I’ve last played it, Raid and PVP modes. These two required more gas fees than just doing the PVE mode, so I skipped out on trying it.
CryptoBlades was my first investment with my own money. I’ve earned that money from an Axie Infinity Scholarship I was on. I never really thought of it as a game, but more as gambling. I pretty much leave my profit up to chance. This chance was indicated before you fight an NPC; the more likely you are to win in the chances, the less rewards you get from risking it, and going for the big reward means an unlikely win. Since you have to pay for just fighting, winning everything was pretty much the only thing you should be thinking of doing, picking the most likely way to earn consistently.
I didn't think much of how it was designed at the time since I just wanted to invest in more P2E games. Now that I've played it with the intention of reviewing it as a game, I think it really is pretty much a gambling game. You spend money so you can use the NFT characters you already paid for to battle an NPC that you might not even get profit from. I don't like the concept. It just seems like a huge scam to me.
I quit investing in the game after around 3 weeks to focus on investing in other tokens at the time, which was the right choice. Around the time I quit, the market price for SKILL was dipping rapidly, and since then, it pretty much stayed the same as it is now.
I think it’s not a game for those who want a fun P2E game. There are way better titles out there for those to look out for and with more potential as well. I would not recommend it, especially for those who want to profit immediately. CryptoBlades does have potential in some aspects, especially the minting of your own NFT, but if you have to pay more so you can use those NFTs in-game, I would rather spend my money on something else.
