There is something so captivating about space. The constant mystery of what lies beyond has kept the entire human race wondering about the existence of other worlds, species, and comparable wonders that we may never have the opportunity to fully explore. Good thing there are virtual experiences that can blast us off to galaxies away from our mundane daily routine. Let’s see if Space Misfits can fit the mold that our imaginations have created.
Samuel Stebbins, CEO of Jade Stems Studios in Florida, and an independent game developer founded Space Misfits in 2019. Space Misfits is based on genuine aircraft design, construction, and maintenance because the developer served in the United States Navy for sixteen years and wanted dedicated players to experience authentic gameplay. The alpha version was launched on the 25th of May 2020, and it was one of the first blockchain-based Open World RPGs. Currently, Space Misfits is already live for everyone to enjoy.
Space Misfits is self-described as a 3D Low Poly Space Sandbox MMORPG which focuses on developing progression-based seasons. Hence, this game is not linear but is designed to give all players a chance to create their own roadmap – a player-driven universe.
In the beginning, you’ll be a lone survivor in the great expanse of space. Thankfully with the use of different NFT equipment, you can make your own difference and get lost into different adventures. You can also choose from a wide range of roles inside Space Misfits like miner, builder, and NPC Hunter. Each of these roles will give you an opportunity to earn in the variety of modes you can play in, such as:
I. Excursion
II. PVP Arena
III. Space Flight
IV. Mining
V. Disembark
Space Misfits is a space MMORPG so it’s somehow in a similar category to games like EVE online, Vendetta among others. But what sets it apart is its retro themed feel and the 1980’s style of sci-fi imagery. To be honest, the game graphics in its gameplay trailer certainly don’t match up to the quality of other games in this genre, but the distinct cinematic experience it offers with a cyberpunk twist is a pleasant blend that brings back the traditional space shooter games of the past years.
While Space Misfits may not be an ultra-realistic space flight simulator, making a game with a low-poly modeling method doesn’t actually mean it won’t look attractive. This also means that the game can run even on low-end rigs that allows it to be played by a larger audience.
Overall, Space Misfits offer various gameplay mechanics that can scratch every possible gaming itch like resource collecting, equipment crafting, fleet building, space exploring and even first person shooting. With that, I am nothing but excited in trying out this retro-flavored 3D low-poly space game.
