League of Kingdoms: A Kingdom Building P2E

There are a lot of ways to be a good leader, even Churchill and Bonaparte have their own opinion about leadership. One can say that a good leader should have warrior qualities while others may favor intellect. Whatever your opinion, Rise of Kingdoms – an NFT-based MMO strategy game, will allow you the freedom to become the ruler you've always wanted to be and record the history that shaped your kingdom in quill or in blood but before you bask in war spoils and eternal glory, let’s see if this game is worth conquering.

DEVELOPMENT HISTORY

The NOD Games team, a pioneering blockchain gaming company with a track record of developing and delivering quality games created the League of Kingdoms game platform and its technical infrastructure. Their core team has its headquarters located in Seoul, South Korea. The project has partnerships with Yield Guild Games, PathDao, MakerDao among others. League of Kingdoms also currently has 80,000 daily active players, and 400,000 monthly active players and finally, the project launched in Ethereum blockchain in early 2020.

GAMEPLAY SUMMARY

The main objective of the game is to create kingdoms on the players' respective LANDS. The ultimate objective is to establish a powerful kingdom, form alliances, advance in construction levels, and conduct research to amass an army to fight against opponents. The NFT land token is the centerpiece of the game, and kingdom-building is the central element of League of Kingdom’s gameplay. Players start with a small primitive city-state that they will develop into a powerful kingdom. Players can also engage in PvP where they can burn down other player’s cities, and steal resources.

At the start of the game, your kingdom is protected for 72 hours. During this time you should build different buildings to establish a strong kingdom before other players roll in to potentially cause harm. There is also the option to join an Alliance with others. Being a part of a strong alliance won’t just protect you from enemy attacks, but it also allows the chance to socialize, build together with allies, and go on collaborated rally attacks against enemies.

You’ll lose troops permanently when they get attacked by another player and you can also lose some resources if your kingdom is looted. Moreover, the game offers daily quests and tasks for players, in which they can complete by farming resources like lumber, corn, gold, and stone. Completing daily quests give points that will accumulate and give players the chance to open chests that contain booster and speedup items.

EARNING

Players can earn by owning NFTs. Land is a virtual real estate NFT in League of Kingdoms that players can own, trade, sell and build things on. Landowners get 5% of all resources that have been gathered on its properties. Moreover, owning land will give the player 10% of game revenue in stable cryptocurrencies like BUSD.

The gaming fees in the game goes to the reward pool for active players and landlords. This game also gives complete ownership of in-game items to players like lumber, gold, stone, and others. These in-game items can be sold on the OpenSea marketplace to other players who need it.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

League of Kingdoms may be familiar to those who played Rise of Kingdoms. Both of the games sound alike and if you compare gameplay screenshots of the two, you can’t miss the similarity. The visuals of the game are easy on the eye with a pleasant color scheme but it’s also quite generic like you’ve already seen it somewhere before.

League of Kingdoms has an open, non-linear structure. There isn’t a particular campaign or story that would underline the entire game and seamlessly unify all its features. It’s true that lore adds depth and richness to the game but in League of Kingdom’s case it’s not really a bad thing since players can write their own story and not be restrained.

The current game itself is pretty solid and diverse from the features that it has but looking at it closely, the game doesn’t really offer anything particularly revolutionary other than sell the play-to-earn dream. League of Kingdoms is advertised as play-to earn that can be free-to-play but in reality, this game has extreme pay-to-win features like paying players building structures quicker and getting stronger faster than average players.

Real-time strategies and city builders are both engaging concepts, and League of Kingdoms is an ambitious hybrid that introduces play-to-earn features to the package. This game is a P2E that favors pay-to-win players more. If you can live with that and you’re prepared to spend money yourself then this game might be an interesting title to you. So are you ready to rule your kingdom with an iron fist?
